A couple of months in, here are some notes about my switch from Spotify to Qobuz.
- The catalog is solid. The only song I couldn’t find so far is Bébé Requin by France Gall, but that’s not a deal breaker.
- The search function is lacking. Sometimes you need to narrow it down by albums or tracks to find what you want. It can be frustrating, but you’ll eventually find what you’re looking for.
- Users cannot upload covers for their playlists, though Qobuz can. I’m not sure why that is—perhaps they worry users might use images without proper rights.
- Qobuz does not provide API keys to individuals. Additionally, the Spotify API stops working for non-paying subscribers, which means the scripts I had for exporting my data from Spotify no longer function, and I cannot replicate them on Qobuz. Joining Qobuz gives you basic access to Soundiiz features, but you need to pay for a Soundiiz subscription to export your data. This is relatively inexpensive for heavy users but not very affordable for basic exports.
Overall, it’s a good experience. Minor frustrations, no regrets.
