Depuis quelques jours, j’ai recommencé à utiliser Swarm pour check-in dans des lieux de Rennes. Ça permet d’isoler et de contextualiser les food pics et ça me permettra de faire une carte de mes spots rennais d’ici quelques mois. (Merci à Aaron Parecki pour l’inspiration)

Produire, c’est utiliser des ressources mais on refuse de laisser les marques qui ne font aucun effort gagner cette bataille, parce que si on arrête, elles continuent de cramer la planète à toute vitesse. Alors on reste, on se bat, et on innove.

Depuis quelques années, quand j’ai besoin d’un vêtement, je l’achète chez Asphalte, Seagale, Le Slip Français, ou Archiduchesse. Mais c’est bien Asphalte qui est le plus clair sur l’importance des pièces intemporelles qui durent longtemps.

Grâce à eux, j’ai une garde robe suffisante, et je n’aurai besoin de rien pour plusieurs mois. C’est le paradoxe : parce qu’ils bossent bien, j’ai de moins en moins besoin d’eux. Mais la planète si. À vous de jouer désormais.

Henry Rich on the R!sky Business podcast, about climate change:

I’m pivoting to more focus on this book on individual action and building climate identity as a consumer. […] I think a lot of the meaning of one’s life as you look back in it will be what individual parts they played in this massive success or catastrophic failure. […] The risk of looking back and not liking what I see is haunting for me. And I also think that there’s a lot of low grade anxiety that people feel about not the threat, but the paralysis. So trying to create tools and heuristics for people to actually tap into something to feel good about and not just feel low key sleepwalking toward armageddon.

I have a strong feeling that when I eventually move away from software engineering, I would love to open a sustainable bar or restaurant that fosters a strong sense of community. Bookmarking this for that time, and waiting for the book.

I lost my Klean Kanteen water bottle, which I had since October 2014. Thanks for the ride, bottle!

It had a few dents and needed some attention to stay upright, but we had a good run together.

I’ve just ordered a replacement, and it will be a Klean Kanteen again. I hope it will accompany me for another 10 years. See you in 2034 for an update.

The NYT asks if people really need to shower every day. I am really glad to read this. I stopped showering every day a couple of years ago. Why? Saving water, energy, and… I really feel like I don’t need to since I started wearing clothes that don’t get smelly as fast as cotton (such as merino wool or technical fabrics like Uniqlo’s Heattech). 🌱

My MacBook Pro from mid-2017 cannot install macOS 14 aka Sonoma. As a developer, this is a must-have. As a regular user, it is a big upset. Apple appears committed to take climate action seriously, cf. www.apple.com/environme… but avoiding existing products to become irrelevant too soon should be part of the agenda. 🌱
